Complete the new member registration process
After having receiving your invitation e-mail and clicking the link contained within (if you have not done this, please go back to Accepting your Mixi invite), you will be taken to the new-member registration page at the Mixi homepage.
The first screen you will be taken to is shown below:
This dialog shows the name of the friend who is inviting you to join Mixi, along with their message if they chose to write one to you. Of course, there are standard Mixi headers and footers in the page, along with a copy of the friend who is inviting you’s profile further down the page.
To continue with the new-member registration process, simply click on the button highlighted in the following picture:
Doing so will take you to the next screen which is shown below in both Japanese and English:
**Note: If you are trying to access this screen from within Japan, you will be prompted to enter your mobile phone’s email address. This hurdle can be avoided by using anonymity software such as TOR, to hide your geographic location from sites you visit.
Using the English image above as a guide, you should be able to complete the majority of neccessary fields.
Where you should take extra care is with the 3 drop-down menus in the 3rd section from the top.
The first drop-down menu must be set to the lowest item on the menu, this is to specify you are outside of Japan:
The second drop-down menu will now populate with the world’s countries. For USA, it is the 5th item from the top, shown here:

The next drop-down menu specifies who has access to see your homepage.
From top to bottom:
- Show only to my friends
- Show to friends of my friends
- Show to everybody (everybody in Mixi, non-members cannot see your Mixi homepage if not registered)
Using the images and English images above, you should now be able to complete the Mixi new member registration form.
Here is an example of a completed form before submission:
When you’re happy with what you’ve entered, click the big button at the bottom and you’ll be presented with this screen:
The above screen is telling you that you have successfully completed the registration screen and that a confirmation e-mail has been sent.
Again, the registration confirmation e-mail will arrive in Japanese characters, here is an example:
Open the email and then click the link highlighted in the below to complete the registration process.
Clicking on this link will complete the registration process. If you are presented with the screen below, everything was a success.
*Several readers have had problems at this point. I checked it out and in the email it actually says “For Hotmail users, you’ll need to copy and paste the link into your web browser’s address bar”. This is because of the way Hotmail handles links in emails, you have to do extra work to visit that link.
Congratulations! You can now login to Mixi!
