How to be popular in mixi
Hello Mixi users and hopeful users, today I’m writing another Mixi in English guide after a little break.
Today’s guide will show you how to become very popular in Mixi, Japan’s largest online community. This guide will bring you many new visitors to your Mixi homepage and should start the friends requests flooding in from new Mixi users who share the same interests as you.
Sound good? It is, I’ve used this technique a few times, and as you can see from the photos below, I have over 15,000 footprints (mostly from the last couple of months). This has led me to numerous new friends and many people have clicked through all the links on my profile to videos, my blog entries and my non-Mixi website visitors have increased, too.
DISCLAIMER: Before you read any further, please note, that I am only promising how to make you more popular in the online Japanese community site, Mixi, not in real life. My only advice for that is you should shower often, brush your teeth, put wax in your hair (and possibly eyebrows), learn to breakdance and be very very wealthy.
Now, onto the guide. You may have noticed above, I mentioned something called footprints. Footprints are the system built into Mixi for tracking who has been to your page and how many have ever checked you out in Mixi since the beginning. In Japanese, they are called 足跡 (ashiato,あしあと) and are located in this area of your Mixi homepage’s toolbar:
When you click on this, it shows you a list with the last 30 people who visited your page, what time they visited and a link to go to their Mixi homepage. It also shows you the total number of visitors you’ve had since starting Mixi (notice mine is now over 15,000 since using this guide!) How many footprints have you had so far in Mixi? Let us know in the poll below:

How to increase the visitors to your Mixi page
Allllrighty then, down to the good stuff. There is one really solid technique I’ve found for increasing your Mixi access from other Mixi members.
- Visit their page!
Yep, that’s it. Just go to their page and the chances are, they will check their footprints page, see your name and want to check out who you are. Almost all Japanese Mixi users will click to your page if you visit them, and most non-Japanese also, from my experience.
“But, how do I find these people?” I hear you asking, demanding clues as to their whereabouts. “Are they as easy to find as WMDs or the G-spot?” Well, let me just say that George W. Bush and my wife aren’t nearly as happy as I am, while using Mixi!
I recommend browsing over to your favourite community and clicking on the “Show all members” link shown here:
This will take you to a paged list of ALL the members in the community (some communities have 100,00’s of users!). You can simply click on each user, then hit the back button in your browser and then click the next person, wash, rinse, repeat. If you are one of the cool, internet-savvy, security conscious users you could Ctrl+click (Command+click in Firefox or Safari on the Mac), which will will open the users page in a new tab in the background. This way, you can Ctrl+click all 50 users per page without really having to see their page. Then when you have opened all 50 pages up, close all tabs but the one showing all the members from the communty and start on the next 50 users.
That’s the proven technique to increasing your popularity in Mixi, Japan’s largest social networking community. It’s advised to only click on members from the communities you actually have an interest in or are a member of already, this will increase the likelihood of the visitor sending you a message or adding you to their friends list.
How the pro’s do it
Clicking each and every user with your mouse can be very time consuming. Especially since you must wait about 3 seconds in between each click or the Mixi site admins will think you are attacking their web servers and will kill your account!!!
